First trailer for Sam Raimi’s Oz: The Great and Powerful, the prequel to The Wizard of Oz
In a time of remakes, reboots, prequels, sequels and so forth, it’s nice to know Hollywood at least won’t go and tarnish some of the studio era classics…unfortunately, the time has come for them to tap into the worlds of those classics for new adventures in the form of Oz: The Great and Powerful. The prequel to the classic The Wizard of Oz (1939) is directed by Sam Raimi, best known for directing the original Spider-Man trilogy with Tobey Maguire (remember that?). Like the original, the film appears to start out in the old 4:3 standard definition aspect ration then change into full, Alice in Wonderland-like colors and widescreen format for the main portion of the story. Regardless of your stance on making a prequel
to one of Hollywood’s most classic films, at least Raimi has collected a solid set of actresses to play the witches, and Franco has the potential to be great sometimes. Check out the first trailer below!
