Captivating teaser trailer and epic theatrical trailer for Star Trek Into Darkness

Posted by on Jan 5, 2013 in Trailers and more | Comments Off

Few can deny the fact that J.J. Abrams’ 2009

Star Trek was anything less than thrilling, clever, and even emotional (i.e. opening sequence), and a worthwhile reboot to the beloved franchise.  Now he and his cast and crew look to make the Dark Knight of his series with an admittedly darker sequel Star Trek Into Darkness (2013).  Rumors and speculation swirls as to who Benedict Cumberbatch is playing (most notably Khan, especially with Alice Eve being Dr. Carol Marcus who was integral to the 1982 film Star Trek 2: Wrath of Khan).  Nevertheless, the first two previews are excellent – the teaser trailer is dark and vengeful, as is the epic theatrical trailer.  This could be one of if not the most anticipated films of 2013.  Check out the trailers below!

In his first post-Transformers directorial effort, Michael Bay returns to his buddy-action roots with Pain & Gain (2013).  The first trailer is everything you’d expect and hope for out of a Bay extravaganza.  It looks in line with the tone of Bad Boys, and so it should be one fun-filled blockbuster.  Check out the trailer below!

Evocative, perplexing teaser trailers for Shane Carruth’s Upstream Color

Posted by on Jan 5, 2013 in Trailers and more | Comments Off

Shane Carruth took Sundance by storm back in 2004 with the intricately written time-travel study Primer; for many it turned out to be too dense, but it is certainly an indie masterpiece for its detailed sci-fi element and strong character study.  Since his debut, Carruth has not made a feature film, until Upstream Color (2013).  Based on the first two, beautiful/haunting teaser trailers and the mystifying plot synopsis, it looks like Carruth will be taking us on another wild, mind-bending ride.  Indeed, it is one of my most anticipated films for the upcoming 2013 Sundance Film Festival.  Check the previews out below!

Man of Steel, Zack Snyder’s upcoming attempt to create a satisfying contemporary Superman epic, looks to be one of 2013’s hottest tickets.  The Terrence Malick-like teaser trailer intrigued audiences and gave them hope that this would be the defining Superman film, not to mention with Christopher Nolan executive producing the film many people hope it will be as great as his Dark Knight trilogy.  The second preview, a full theatrical trailer, is just as astonishing as it teases both character-driven drama and epic action.  Check it out below!

Awesome first trailer for TRON: Legacy director Joseph Kosinski’s sci-fi epic Oblivion

Posted by on Jan 5, 2013 in Trailers and more | Comments Off

Despite its lackluster critical reception,

director Joseph Kosinski’s feature-film debut TRON: Legacy (2010) was an awesome and thrilling sci-fi adventure.  His sophomore effort Oblivion (2013) looks equally intriguing and entertaining based on its pulse-pounding first trailer.  With Tom Cruise as its lead, this could further catapult Kosinski into mainstream appeal as a top-notch director.  Check out the first preview below!

Epic first trailer for Guillermo del Toro’s Pacific Rim

Posted by on Jan 5, 2013 in Trailers and more | Comments Off

It’s hard to deny the fact that Guillermo del Toro is a visionary director with a great eye for detail; his films are full of production value.  It’s been five years since his last directorial effort, but we now have a trailer for his highly anticipated monster/sci-fi epic Pacific Rim (2013).  The scale is off-the-charts, and the monsters look great.  However, I’m a little worried about the massive Transformers

and even Battleship vibe from the second half of the preview involving the giant robots used to fight the monsters.  Nonetheless, with del Toro at the helm, I’m sure it will be an extraordinarily entertaining and well-crafted blockbuster.  Check out the preview below!

Gripping theatrical trailer for Zero Dark Thirty, Kathryn Bigelow’s Osama bin Laden manhunt film

Posted by on Oct 12, 2012 in Trailers and more | 0 comments

Kathryn Bigelow, director of the Oscar-winning The Hurt Locker (2008), and screenwriter Mark Boal had developed a film about the

(then unsuccessful) manhunt for Osama bin Laden when the Seal Team Six tracked down and killed him on May 2, 2011.  As such, they quickly rewrote the script and put the highly anticipated film Zero Dark Thirty (2012) into production.  It should be one of the most sought-after movies this winter given the significant event(s) it covers.  Upping the ante is the fact that the filmmakers consulted the White House for research; furthermore, it should be interesting to see what account the film presents given the recent Seal Team Six book that contradicts some of the White House’s report.  Despite the obvious need to stretch the facts for national security purposes, Zero Dark Thirty should be a fascinating, thrilling piece of cinema that everyone needs to put on their radar.  Check out the mysterious yet gripping full-length trailer below and be ready for some spine-tingling chills.

Fierce second trailer for Gangster Squad

Posted by on Oct 12, 2012 in Trailers and more | 0 comments

Following the horrific and tragic shooting at The Dark Knight Rises (2012) midnight premiere in Aurora, CO, Warner Bros. decided to push back Gangster Squad until January 2013 in order to remove a violent theater shoot-up scene and replace it with something else.  Now, we have a new theatrical trailer for the film, helmed by Zombieland (2009) director Ruben Fleischer, and it is action-packed, to say the least.  It is uber-stylish and hip; it harkens back to classic gangster flicks that go big and brash – many comparisons are being made to The Untouchables (1987) style.  Check out the second trailer below!

Quentin Tarantino’s stylish Civil-war era-set spaghetti western Django Unchained (2012) looks absolutely ridiculous, in the best sense. The second trailer features plenty of new

footage and witty Tarantino dialogue. It looks to be one heck of an action-packed, hilarious flick. Check out the second trailer below, and remember, “Adult supervision is required.”

First trailer for Hitchcock, starring Anthony Hopkins

Posted by on Oct 10, 2012 in Trailers and more | 0 comments

Psycho is one of the best films ever made, yet its production was tumultuous to say the least; Hitchcock (2012) takes a look at it. With sir Anthony Hopkins in the titular role, this should be a great little film. Somewhat surprisingly, the first preview is more entertaining and comical than I imagined,

but that doesn’t diminish the excitement for this intriguing movie. Check out the trailer below!
